Disconnect The Gas

Some will say that this should be your first step before doing any maintenance to the water heater. That is a personal preference. In our case we don't have any gas bottles hooked up to the trailer so we are assuming that the system is safe to work on.

Shut off the gas and disconnect the fitting.

Disconnect the gas line from the water heater. If needed, gently bend the pipe straight enough to pull it out from the bottom. I knew that I would be replacing this pipe so I went ahead and bent it straight to facilitate the removal process.

Remove the gas supply pipe by pulling it out the bottom. Plan on replacing the pipe just because its the right thing to do.
